Spike Primrose is a perennial herb. The rhizome is very short, with numerous long roots. The leaves are oblong to oblanceolate, covered with multicellular pubescence on both sides or only along the veins on the underside; the scape is 30-60 cm tall, pubescent or sometimes almost glabrous; the inflorescence is usually short and spicate, with many flowers, without powder or sometimes with yellow powder; the corolla is blue or rose purple; the flowering period is from June to July, and the fruiting period is from July to August.
