How to deal with honeysuckle rotten roots
As a common Chinese medicinal material and ornamental plant, honeysuckle's root rot problem directly affects the survival and medicinal value of the plant. This article focuses on the causes of honeysuckle rot roots, from root maintenance to pest and disease control, systematically analyzes seven major treatment strategies to help flower friends quickly save sick plants. 1. The problem of rotten roots caused by nutrient imbalance 1.1 Scientific fertilization plan The roots of honeysuckle are sensitive to fertilizers. Excessive fertilization will cause salt accumulation, leading to cell dehydration and death. It is recommended to adopt the principle of "applying thin fertilizer frequently", apply diluted organic fertilizer every month in spring and autumn (soybean cake fertilizer 1:50 mixed with water), and stop fertilization in winter. When fertilizer damage occurs, immediately wash the roots with clean water and replace the breathable substrate. 1.2 Basal fertilizer selection standard When changing pots, priority should be given to decayed sheep dung (the amount should not exceed 15% of the pot soil), and use bone meal to supplement phosphorus. Avoid using unfermented raw fertilizers, which can produce high heat and burn roots during decomposition. 2. Key points of water management 2.1 Soil cultivation and water control techniques adopt the "see dry and wet" watering method, and wait until the basin soil is dry at a depth of 3cm before pouring it thoroughly. In the rainy season, it is necessary to build a rainproof canopy to avoid root rot caused by stagnant water. Ground planting plants should be ridged with a height of 15cm to ensure smooth drainage. 2.2 The hydroponic system maintains the hydroponic container to change water every week and clean the inner wall. Add 2 drops of hydrogen peroxide (3% concentration) to inhibit the growth of anaerobic bacteria. Use ceramite to fix the root system and keep 1/3 of the root system exposed to the air to promote gas exchange. 3. Comprehensive pest and disease control system 3.1 Root rot treatment process When the diseased plant is found, the root rot treatment process will be removed immediately, and the roots will be soaked in potassium permanganate (0.1% solution) for 20 minutes to cut off the black and rotten roots. Use new soil (peat: perlite =3:1) to plant it, and use hymoxazole to irrigate the roots (diluted 1:2000). 3.2 The pest prevention plan sprays matrine (biopesticide) every month to prevent root-knot nematodes. During planting, a 5-cm-thick layer of pine needles is laid on the bottom of the basin to block underground pests. It was found that pests such as grub can be killed by irrigating the roots with tea bran water (100g = 5L water).
By improving the cultivation environment, precise water and fertilizer management, and regular preventive killing, the problem of honeysuckle root rot can be effectively controlled. It is recommended to check the root status every quarter, prune aging roots in time, maintain the strong metabolic ability of the root system, and ensure healthy growth of the plant.
