The Quince (Cydonia oblonga) is a deciduous small tree. Young branches are pubescent. Leaves are ovate or oblong, dark green on the surface, densely pubescent on the back. Flowers are solitary at the top of branches, white or pink. Fruits are pear-shaped, yellow, and fragrant. Blooming period is April to May. It thrives in sunlight but can tolerate semi-shade. It has a strong adaptability and is cold-resistant. It is not picky about soil, and can be cultivated in well-drained areas. The branches and leaves of the Quince are sparse, the flowers are pink, resembling dawn, the fruits are yellow and aromatic. It is suitable for solitary planting in front or back yards for ornamental purposes. Seedlings can be used as dwarfing rootstocks for pears, quinces, and apples, and grafting with loquat can enhance its cold resistance. The fruit can be used medicinally.
