The Mountain Hawthorn is a tree. The trunk is gray-brown, smooth, and not prone to cracking. The new shoots are yellow-brown and hairless. The tender shoots are green with a slight reddish-brown tinge. The leaves are elliptical, with acuminate tips and cuneate bases, and the leaf margins have fine and sharp serrations.
