The soursop is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 8 meters tall; the bark is rough. The leaves are papery, oblong-ovate to elliptical, the upper surface is bright green and glossy, the lower surface is light green, and both sides are hairless; the flower buds are ovoid, the flowers are light yellow, the sepals are ovate-elliptical, the outer petals are thick and broadly triangular, the inner petals are slightly thinner and ovate-elliptical; the fruit is ovoid, the flesh is slightly sour and juicy, white; there are many seeds, kidney-shaped, and brownish-yellow. The flowering period is from April to July, and the fruiting period is from July to the following March. The fruit is edible; the bark fiber can be used for papermaking; the roots can stop diarrhea; the seeds contain up to 20% oil.
