How to prune cuttings of Chinese roses

Today, the editor will elaborate on how to prune cuttings of Chinese roses, as well as the topics of the appropriate season and methods for propagating green plants and flowers. Let's follow the editor and take a look!

Friends who have been gardening for a long time often try to propagate flowers on their own, but not all attempts at propagation are successful. Propagation requires many skills, but many friends are not aware of these techniques, which often leads to failure. So today, I will teach you how to propagate Chinese roses to increase their survival rate!

Propagation of Chinese roses can be done throughout the year, but it is best to do it in spring and avoid summer. Spring offers the highest survival rate, whereas the survival rate is relatively low in summer. Many friends notice new buds on their propagated Chinese roses but find that they die after a few days. What is the reason for this?

1. Choose strong branches

Many friends, in order to maintain the beauty of the original potted plant when propagating Chinese roses, will choose branches that are cut during pruning and directly propagate without selection. Most of these branches are tender or dried branches, so the survival rate in the later stage will be relatively low. Choosing the right branches for propagation is particularly important. We must select robust branches to ensure the survival rate of the cuttings!

2. Soak the branches

You can purchase root-promoting powder online, dilute it with water, and soak the branches for two hours. However, if you don't have root-promoting powder, you can still use vinegar and water mixed in a 1:100 ratio to soak the branches. Soaking the branches is an essential step in the propagation process!

3. Choose soil

When choosing soil, select loose and nutritious soil, and simple, nutritious soil is not suitable for propagating Chinese roses. To prevent the soil from becoming compact, remember to add some decomposed leaf soil and river sand, and mix in a small amount of perlite to increase the soil's permeability and keep the plant well-ventilated!

4. Propagate

First, place the selected soil in the pot, then insert the previously chosen branches into the soil. On the surface of the soil, you can add a layer of perlite about 1cm thick. Then start watering, making sure that the first watering completely saturates the soil. After that, move the potted plant to a place with diffused light and let it sit for 5 days. After five days, you will see new buds on the propagated branches.

5. Post-propagation care

The appearance of new buds on our branches does not mean that the propagation process is over. We still need to care for them meticulously in the later stages. Be careful not to expose the propagated branches to direct sunlight, as this is harmful to Chinese roses, and avoid moving the potted plant randomly.
