Clematis Winter Management and Precautions
Today's experience sharing: Clematis winter management and precautions for green plant flower planting, specific contents are as follows:
Recently, many flower friends have asked how to care for clematis in winter? Should it be pruned? Today, let's talk about the winter management of clematis.
Clematis Winter Management and Precautions
Some flower friends ask, "The leaves of clematis have turned yellow, is it dead?" Don't throw it away. Clematis is often in a dormant state in winter and summer. The leaves turn yellow and look like they are withering, which is a normal physiological phenomenon.
Now it's getting colder and colder, and clematis is gradually entering the dormant period. So how to manage it during the winter dormant period?
In order to have more and larger flowers in the spring next year, clematis should do these three things in winter.
1. -- Moderate Water Control --
Clematis itself is not resistant to water, and it should not be watered too much in daily maintenance. In the winter dormant period, more attention should be paid to water control. For example, in the areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, clematis has entered a state of extensive yellow leaves. At this time, water control should be applied to keep the potting soil slightly dry.
Throughout the winter, the potting soil should not be too dry. Outdoor maintenance can rely on rainwater, and no additional watering is needed. For indoor maintenance, water can be poured along the edge of the pot when the potting soil is dry. It is recommended not to place clematis in a warm room. Only after experiencing low temperatures, the flower buds of class one and many class two clematis can develop well. Too high temperature in winter will affect flowering.
2. -- Potting and Applying Base Fertilizer --
The most important point in the winter management of clematis is potting and fertilizing. The root system of clematis grows very fast and easily bursts the pot. If the roots are full and not repotted, it will cause the clematis to rot and not grow, and in severe cases, it will lead to withering.
Therefore, in winter, it is necessary to take advantage of the dormant period to repot and replace the flower stand of clematis, and apply enough base fertilizer to lay the foundation for the outbreak of clematis in spring.
The time requirement for repotting clematis in winter is not strict, from deep autumn to early spring. It is recommended to do it in early winter when the autumn flowers of clematis are basically over and it is about to enter dormancy. Repotting has little effect on the growth of clematis.
At this time, the temperature is not too low. After repotting, the root system of clematis will continue to grow, quickly develop roots, absorb and store nutrients, which is a good time for repotting.
During repotting, it is recommended to add well-fermented organic fertilizer, such as fermented chicken manure and sheep manure, or a small amount of slow-release fertilizer. Many flower friends say that clematis cannot use organic fertilizer, but this statement is not accurate.
Well-fermented organic fertilizer contains a lot of organic matter and beneficial flora, as well as medium and trace elements, which is very good for both the soil and clematis. However, raw fertilizer that has not been fermented cannot be used.
Some people say that the withering disease of clematis is caused by base fertilizer, but this is unfounded. Withering disease occurs above the soil, so what connection can there be with organic fertilizer in the soil? The flora contained in fermented organic fertilizer are beneficial bacteria that can inhibit the development of harmful bacteria and have a positive effect.
The occurrence of withering disease is more related to daily prevention and the resistance of varieties.
3. -- Pruning --
Clematis needs to be pruned properly during the winter dormant period. Now, except for the northern regions, it is still a bit early to cut clematis heavily. For example, in the areas of Zhejiang and Shanghai, clematis has not fully entered dormancy yet, so it is not suitable for heavy pruning.
Winter pruning of clematis is also carried out at the coldest time of the year, similar to roses. Different types of clematis have different pruning methods. If you don't know what variety your clematis is and how many types of pruning, you can look for full buds. Keep the full buds and cut off all the non-full ones.
The above is the introduction of all the management and precautions of clematis in winter. I hope it can be helpful to you. Finally, don't forget to take a look at more flower cultivation experience and common sense!
