Basic Material Proportioning Principles
High-quality mature soil is the foundation of the cultivation substrate, and it is recommended to use vegetable garden soil within 30cm of the plow layer, as this type of soil is rich in humus and microbial communities. Mixing 30% rice hull ash or plant ash can improve aeration and adjust the pH level. Well-rotted organic fertilizers, such as sheep manure, are recommended as slow-release fertilizers, mixed in a 2:1:1 ratio to form an ideal granular structure.

Bamboo Leaf Soil Mixture Formula
In southern regions, a bamboo leaf soil formula can be used: 30% garden soil + 30% bamboo leaf humus soil + 20% nutrient soil. Bamboo leaf soil has natural antibacterial components, combined with 10% peat soil for moisture retention, and wood chips are added to enhance drainage. This combination is especially suitable for rainy areas, effectively preventing root diseases.
Simple Mixing Scheme
If materials are limited, a mixture of 50% garden soil + 20% perlite + 15% wood chips + 15% compost can be used. Perlite particle diameter is recommended to be 3-5mm, and when combined with wood chips, it forms a three-dimensional pore structure, ensuring adequate root respiration.

Substrate Disinfection Standards
Newly mixed substrates need to be spread out and exposed to the sun for 3-5 consecutive sunny days for optimal UV disinfection. For large-scale planting, steam disinfection is recommended, where maintaining 80°C for 30 minutes can thoroughly kill pathogens. After disinfection, let it sit for 48 hours to restore microbial activity.
Organic Fertilizer Decomposition Standards
Animal manure needs to be composted for more than 60 days, and the temperature should be monitored to reach 55°C for 10 consecutive days. Fully decomposed fertilizer is dark brown, odorless, and has a stable carbon-nitrogen ratio of around 20:1, avoiding the risk of root burning.
Through scientific proportioning and standardized processing, an ideal growing environment for roses can be created. It is recommended to update the substrate every spring when repotting, and to regularly supplement well-rotted organic fertilizer during daily maintenance. Different growth stages can slightly adjust the formula ratio, such as increasing phosphorus and potassium during the flowering stage, and enhancing drainage during the dormant period, allowing roses to receive optimal growth support in different seasons.
