Summer propagation of Chinese roses
The small life experience brought to you today involves summer propagation of Chinese roses. Hereinafter, the editor will introduce some knowledge about Chinese roses.
From the pictures, you can see that most of the rose branch tips have already formed callus tissue, and after forming callus tissue, the growth of roots is not far off. This could be considered 1/3 of the propagation success.
Why only 1/3? To ensure the survival of propagation, not only should the roots grow smoothly, but also the移植 and planting should survive, which is considered true propagation success, so it is still a bit challenging.
(Chinese roses propagated by hydroponic method in the training camp) The propagation method using Styrofoam board and water insertion has also been introduced in previous articles. This method is most suitable for summer use, as it is simple to manage and has a high survival rate. However, it is often prone to blackening during transplantation. Today, let's briefly discuss several precautions for summer propagation of Chinese roses.
1. How to make branches root faster in hydroponic propagation?
Whether using hydroponic or soil propagation, if you want the roots to grow faster, it is recommended to use some products that can promote rapid root growth. The commonly used ones are root stimulators, which can not only promote root growth but also make the bud points plump.
Of course, you can choose not to use it, but the roots will grow slower. Simply put, without a root stimulator, it may take 40 days for the roots to grow, while with a root stimulator, it may only take 20 days, and the roots will be more abundant. During hydroponic propagation, you only need to add a root stimulator to the water at the beginning, and no need to add it after changing the water. Change the water once a day during the early stage of propagation, and every other day after 3 days, or change the water when the water becomes turbid.
2. How to transplant with a high survival rate after the roots have grown
The biggest challenge in hydroponic propagation is transplantation. It's not the transplantation itself that is difficult, but the huge environmental difference from a hydroponic environment to a soil-cultivated environment during adverse weather conditions. This makes it difficult for the newly rooted Chinese rose seedlings to adapt, leading to blackening after transplantation.
For a high survival rate during transplantation, it is necessary to pay attention to the climate environment, keeping the seedlings in water until autumn when the temperature is cool before transplanting. At the same time, you can use some transplant protectants during transplantation.
The highest survival rate is achieved by transplanting with soil, so if you want a high survival rate for propagation transplantation, it is recommended to use some sterile substrates for propagation.
3. Perlite propagation
Using perlite for propagation in summer also has a very high survival rate, and during transplantation, you can directly transplant with the perlite, which can minimize damage to the rose roots and lead to faster recovery and higher survival rates.
The method is also simple: fill a disposable cup or a small bi-color flower pot with large perlite particles, insert the rose branches, water thoroughly, and keep the perlite moist thereafter. To speed up root growth, you can soak the rose cuttings in a root stimulant solution before propagation.
