Exclusive original sharing of the method of aerial layering propagation for Chinese roses

The other day, I shared an article about the adjustment of the shape of Chinese rose plants, in which the use of aerial layering was mentioned, and then I received many comments from的小伙伴s asking what aerial layering is and what the operation method is.

Actually, the operation method of aerial layering has been shared in articles a long time ago, but many小伙伴s may not have seen it or have forgotten it. So today, let's talk about the method of aerial layering again.

What is aerial layering?

Aerial layering is actually a type of layering propagation. Regular layering is usually done on the ground, while aerial layering, as the name implies, is done in the air and is more suitable for branches that are not easy to bend, such as Chinese rose branches.

Method of aerial layering

The method of aerial layering is very simple. The main steps can be summarized as cutting, wrapping, and planting.

1. Cutting: The first step in aerial layering is to make a cutting on the branch that needs to be layered. Of course, before the cutting treatment, we need to prepare some small tools.

Preparation tools: A sharp craft knife, a wrapping band, a plastic bag, moss or soil for layering, black tape, and rooting powder (not necessary).

Use a craft knife to make a cut at the part that needs to be layered, with the width of the cut about 1.5 times the diameter of the branch, and peel off the skin.

It should be noted that when cutting, the depth should not be too deep to avoid breaking the branch, and the skin should be peeled clean.

2. Wrapping

After the cut is made, first apply rooting powder or rooting solution to the cut area, then tie a plastic bag around the lower part of the cut area, making the plastic bag into a funnel shape.

Then wrap the soaked moss around the cut area, squeezing out the excess water. If you use soil, it can also be done, but it should be soil without fertilizer, as too much organic matter can easily cause the cut wound to become infected.
