If the received peony roots are too long, they should be trimmed before soaking in the fungicide. The roots should be cut shorter, with longer roots for ground planting and more trimming for pot planting.

Don't worry, trimming the roots will not have a bad effect on the peonies. In fact, proper root trimming is more beneficial for peonies to grow new roots. Of course, you shouldn't trim too much, leaving only a bud, which would not be good either.
