How to distinguish between roses and Chinese roses
If you want to know how to distinguish between roses and Chinese roses and the related experience of differentiating between the two flowers in cultivation, the following is a detailed introduction.
【Preface】
Recently, I am often asked by friends, which one is a Chinese rose and which one is a rose? How to distinguish between Chinese roses and roses? Think about it, can you distinguish them? Indeed, it is common for people to confuse the two, some mistake roses for Chinese roses, and others mistake Chinese roses for roses. Roses and Chinese roses are indeed very similar and difficult to distinguish, as they both belong to the Rosaceae family, like a pair of twins, very hard to tell apart. So, how exactly do you distinguish them?
Based on my experience in growing flowers, today I will share this issue with you and teach you how to distinguish between roses and Chinese roses. I have summarized 10 most comprehensive methods for you to collect. As long as you follow the actual situation, learning one method will enable you to distinguish between Chinese roses and roses well.
1. The most common method: look at the flowers.
This is the method we use most often. When you see a rose or Chinese rose flower, the first thing that catches your eye is the flower. What are the differences between the flowers of Chinese roses and roses? Let's take a look.
Chinese Rose: To make it easier for everyone to remember, I have summarized it as "six ones": one large, one complete, one many, one long, one single, and one key. The flowers are large, the colors are complete, there are many petals, the flower stems are long, mostly single flowers, and the key is that Chinese roses are bright and beautiful.
Rose: After understanding the Chinese rose flowers, roses are the opposite of Chinese roses. The flowers are smaller, single or clustered, mainly red, purple, and white, with single and double petals, not as beautiful and bright as Chinese roses.
Please refer to the figure below, it's self-explanatory.
2. The most useful method: look at the leaves.
This is the most useful method, and it's my favorite. It's very convenient to look at the leaves, and you can tell the difference at a glance.
Chinese Rose: Pay attention to the figure below, Chinese rose leaves are mostly 5, the leaf surface is also large, smooth and shiny.
Rose: Often 7 leaves, the leaves are small, there are more veins, not flat; the back of the leaves has down, there are more spines on the edges; the key is that its leaves are not bright, somewhat dull.
How about that? "One more, one less, one bright, one dark," very obvious, right?
3. The most convenient method: look at the thorns.
Looking at the thorns on their stems is very convenient and easy to distinguish. Look at the figure below, the difference is quite clear!
Chinese Rose: The thorns are large, straight, and spaced far apart, relatively sparse.
Rose: Its thorns are smaller and very dense, feeling dense and having hooks.
It can be summarized as: one big, one small, one dense, one sparse, one straight, one curved.

4. The most careful method: look at the stems.
If there are no flowers or leaves, looking at the stems is also a good method. Their stems are usually hidden among the flowers and leaves, and the color of the stems is relatively green. With careful observation, you can also tell the difference at a glance.
Chinese Rose: The stems are thicker, have good upright properties, and the stems are brighter. The thorns on the stems are sparse and far apart.
Rose: The stems are soft and relatively thin, not bright in color, with dense thorns that can easily bend the branches when flowering, causing them to droop.
5. The most obvious method: look at the flower receptacles.
If you look carefully at the flower receptacles, this is very obvious. Especially suitable for dried flowers, that is, looking at the flower receptacle under the flower, there is still a big difference between roses and Chinese roses. This method is very practical when buying roses for tea.
Chinese Rose: The flower receptacle of Chinese roses is nearly round, like a small trumpet.
Rose: It is hemispherical, like a small bead.
How about that? It's still easy to distinguish! Chinese rose flower receptacles are like trumpets, and rose flower receptacles are like balls!
6. The easiest method to judge: look at the blooming period.
This is based on the blooming time to judge, mainly analyzing from an annual perspective, and it's easy to judge when the flowers bloom.
Chinese Rose: Chinese roses bloom every month, also called "monthly red." They bloom all year round, and with good care, they can even bloom in winter.
Rose: Mainly in May of spring. If you see it in autumn, you can judge it as a Chinese rose.
