Planting Vegetables: What to Plant in July and August in Summer
For most women, knowledge about fruits and vegetables, such as what vegetables to plant in July and August during the summer, is important. Next, the editor will introduce this to everyone.
Recently, I have been frequently asked by friends about what vegetables to plant on the balcony in July. I have listed some suggestions based on personal experience, fellow vegetable gardeners', and veteran farmers.
Different regions may have suitable varieties due to local climates, which cannot be covered comprehensively here. This post mainly lists some common vegetables:
July has the highest temperatures. It transitions from wet to dry, with strong winds and frequent south winds from Nanyang. After the first ten days, the plum rain season ends, and the midsummer season begins. The weather will be hot with little rain, possibly with sudden showers or heavy storms.
Summer Cabbage, Early Autumn Cabbage
Summer cabbage is generally sown from late April to early July. Early autumn cabbage is sown from late July to early August. Use seedling trays or nutritional pots for seedlings, selecting varieties that are heat-resistant, have a short growth period, do not bolt easily, have compact hearts, and are disease-resistant. Varieties such as Japanese Summer Yangzhao Early Maturing No. 5, Heat Resistant King, etc., are covered with straw or sunshade nets. Seedlings in nutritional pots have an age of 20 days.
Balcony Vegetable Gardening:

Autumn Watermelon
Early to mid-July (Z-B). Select early maturing or mid-early maturing varieties that are heat-resistant, disease-resistant, and of good quality.
Cabbage
Cabbage from early to late July. All use shaded and rainproof seedling raising.
Tomato
Such as large tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, yellow holy fruit
Sow seedlings in nutrient-rich soil from mid-July to early August and cover with sunshade net after sowing.
Eggplant
Plant in early to mid-July
Chili Pepper
Peppers in the first and second ten days. Sow in nutrient-rich soil from mid-July to early August, covered with sunshade net for seedlings.
Parsley, Western Parsley
From late June to early August, shade and rainproof seedlings, western parsley, etc., germinate in a cool and humid place, and build a 1-meter-high flower shade shed.
Attention should be paid to excessive sunlight. Please appropriately increase the sunshade net for the vegetables, such as those in small yards or on top floors.
Also, this month is the vigorous growth period for bitter gourd and luffa, with many fruits. It is necessary to pay attention to topdressing and pruning to increase the female fruit rate.
1. Pay attention to pruning, topdressing, and covering the gourds with straw for summer wax gourds.
2. Clean the garden and prepare the soil.
Remove the residual branches and diseased leaves of the garden vegetables, dry them in the sun, burn them for sterilization, and pest control. Prepare the soil with an equal mixture of pig manure, cow manure, or poultry manure, slag fertilizer, and garden soil, add 1% superphosphate, and 1% quicklime, mix well, and seal for composting.
The above is the experience and knowledge of planting vegetables: what to plant in July and August during the summer. I hope this article can be of some help to you!
