The Hairy Grass Dragon is a sub-shrub, perennial erect herb, with a straight stem that is 40-100 cm tall, robust, densely covered with spreading coarse hair, slightly branched, cylindrical, slightly ridged. The leaves are lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, acuminate at the apex, narrowed at the base into a short petiole or without a petiole. The flowers are yellow, solitary in the leaf axils, sessile or nearly sessile; the petals are yellow, obovate, slightly notched at the apex; the capsules are cylindrical, green or purplish, with numerous seeds that are round and notched, with a distinct seed ridge. The flowering period is June to August, and the fruiting period is August to November. The whole plant can be used as medicine, with the effects of clearing heat and dampness, reducing swelling and detoxifying.
