The pineapple plant, actually not a tree, is a perennial monocot evergreen herbaceous plant. Dwarf, 0.5-1m tall, without a main root, equipped with fibrous root system; the succulent stem is wrapped by spirally arranged leaves, leaves are sword-shaped; the inflorescence is terminal, bearing many small flowers; the succulent compound fruit is formed by many ovaries aggregating on the flower spike. It prefers warm conditions, loose, well-drained, and organically rich soil. Pineapples contain a high amount of fructose, glucose, vitamins B and C, phosphorus, citric acid, and protease. It has a sweet and neutral taste, and is effective in quenching thirst, reducing heat, aiding digestion, and stopping diarrhea. It is an excellent seasonal fruit for summer, both as food and medicine.
