Four-Sided Vine is a woody vine that can grow over 10 meters long. The stems, branches, and petioles are sharply tetragonal, with young parts often exuding silk-like sap when broken. The stems have nodes and are dark purple or light green. The leaves are alternate, ovate; the corymb inflorescence grows at the top of lateral branches, with a cup-shaped calyx that is green or slightly tinged with purple-red; the petals are oblong-ovate, with the tip purple-red; the berries are fleshy, spherical, and turn purplish-black when ripe. The flowering period is April to May, and the fruiting period is November to December. The stems of the Four-Sided Vine can be used as medicine, with the effect of treating rheumatism and sprained tendons.
