How to propagate a rubber plant: methods and timing for rubber plant propagation.

How to propagate a rubber plant

For many girls, to learn how to propagate a rubber plant and the related knowledge about the methods and timing of rubber plant propagation, keep reading!

The author has cultivated rubber plants for many years and has found that propagating rubber plants with water is not only highly successful but also easy and convenient for home use. It is much faster than the sand leaf insertion method. Choosing a larger branch can quickly result in a large pot of rubber plants, achieving twice the result with half the effort. The specific method is as follows:

1. Timing

In the north, where there is heating, the beginning of March in a flat house, and the beginning of May in a bungalow. Room temperature should be maintained between 18-25°C. It is not easy to root if the temperature exceeds 30°C.

2. Selecting a branch

The branch should be fully developed, with robust leaves and free of diseases and pests. It's best to keep 2-3 leaves on the branch. Larger leaves can be cut off by 1/2 or 1/3. After cutting the branch, wash the white latex from the cut surface with warm water.

3. Container

Use a narrow-necked glass bottle (such as a medical 500ml glucose solution bottle, and a colored beer bottle is even better), other glass bottles can also be used. Clean the bottle with water before use to remove any dirt.

4. Water

River water or well water is preferable. Tap water should be aired for two days before use to remove chlorine. If conditions allow, you can add a certain amount of growth promoters to the water, which can promote earlier and more root growth.

5. Management

Wrap the lower part of the cut branch near the bottle opening with a paper strip or cotton and plug the bottle opening. Insert the lower end into the water 3-5 centimeters, one branch per bottle, and place it in a semi-shaded, well-ventilated area. As rubber plant leaves are large and have a high evaporation rate, it is important to add water to the bottle and maintain a constant water level. The water in the bottle should be kept clean, and if it becomes cloudy, it should be changed immediately.

A large pot of rubber plants

Generally, roots start to grow after about a month, and when 2-3 roots about 2 centimeters long have grown, carefully remove the branch from the bottle. Plant it in a small pot with a diameter of 13 centimeters and tie it with a stick to prevent movement that could damage the roots. Place it in a shaded area for about a week, then gradually move it into the sunlight. When the first new leaf has emerged and the new roots in the pot are full, you can change to a larger pot for maintenance.
