Types and Names of Cacti
Today, I will explain the types and names of cacti and related content about the planting methods of potted cacti for green plants. Next, the editor will introduce them to you.
Most varieties in the cactus (ball) family are easy to plant. These plants require little maintenance, are drought-resistant, and only need a small amount of watering.
The main problem with growing cacti is overwatering. Because cacti originate from desert areas and are adapted to grow in regions with little rainfall. Their stems are used to store water, allowing them to easily survive in dry weather.
This means that giving these plants too much water, especially when growing in containers, can lead to root rot and plant death. In fact, you should let the soil completely dry out before giving the plants more water. Many species can survive for weeks without additional water, especially in cooler months.
When growing any type of cactus at home, be sure not to overwater; it will grow happily and thrive.
Here are different types of cacti that you can easily plant at home.
Brazilian蟹爪
Brazilian蟹爪 flowers come in red, pink, and other colors. These types of cacti are best grown in a small pot and do not need to be repotted frequently.
Beaver Tail Cactus
This type of cactus has fleshy, blue-green pads covered with many white or brown areoles, with spiny ball-like structures on top. Compared to other cacti, this variety grows smaller, reaching only about 6 centimeters in height. It does form clumps that can reach 15 centimeters in diameter.
The beaver tail cactus produces deep cherry-pink flowers at the end of winter and early summer. These fragrant flowers have a fruity scent. The plant prefers to grow in full sun in well-drained sandy loam.
Blue Column Cactus
This is a very spectacular cactus with a tall and upright light blue stem. The stem has deep ribs, with a large number of golden-brown areoles along the edge of the ribs. There are many short and spiny spines.
If grown outdoors, this plant can reach a height of 90 centimeters, although it grows slowly. It produces white flowers in summer. They can have green or red outer segments and are funnel-shaped. Typically, the flowers first open at night and then last until daytime. Flowers only start to appear when the plant reaches a height of at least 10-15 centimeters.
Types and Names of Cacti
Dragon God Column
The Dragon God Column is a candlestick-shaped cactus with flowers that resemble those you see in comics. In its natural habitat, the stem is blue-gray with about 5 to 8 different ribs. The stem is covered with broad areoles and has about 3 to 5 short spines.
The flowers on this cactus are small and greenish-white. After flowering, the plant produces small and sweet edible fruits. The fruits are deep red and oval. Plant this cactus in a well-drained cactus mix in full sun or on a bright windowsill.
Yellow毛发 Cactus
The yellow毛发 cactus has fleshy green pads that overlap each other, resembling rabbit ears. The pads are covered with many small areoles with hairy ball-like structures or spiny hair.
This is a low-growing cactus that is very suitable for growing in pots. There are many different varieties. Some have white ball-like structures, while others have bright red ones. This plant is very easy to grow and propagate, simply by removing one of the pads and placing it in some cactus mix.
This variety rarely blooms, but when it does, the flowers are usually light yellow, sometimes with red.
Wax Tree
It produces many candlestick-like branches from short woody stems. The areoles on the stem ridges are about 1 inch apart, with short gray or black spines.
Flowers appear at the tip of each stem in summer. They are usually cream-colored, sometimes with purple. After flowering, the plant produces edible fruits that are red with yellow or brown hues. These fruits are juicy and slightly acidic.
This cactus variety prefers to grow in a sunny environment and in a fast-draining succulent mix.
