Cactus Care Methods
The editor will tell you about the contents of the cactus care methods, including the care methods for cacti, what are the small skills in caring for cacti, let's follow the editor to see!
1. Soil. Potted cacti generally require well-drained and breathable calcareous sandy soil or sandy loam soil. Soil that is too fertile and contains too much soluble salt can easily cause root rot and damage. For home cultivation of cacti, the growing soil can be mixed with 2 parts of compost, 4 parts of garden soil, and 4 parts of river sand.
2. Watering. Cacti are drought-tolerant, and it is better to water less rather than more. Accumulation of water in the pot should be avoided, and keeping the soil half-moist is fine. June to August is the peak growing season for cacti, and if you want to promote faster growth, you can water once a day. Keep the soil moist, pay attention to drainage during the rainy season, and do not water during the dormant period. For stems with hair or white powder, and grafting sites, do not water them directly. Fertilization should be done with fully decomposed organic fertilizer or fertilizers with residue during the vigorous growing season.
3. Fertilization. Fertilizing cacti can be done in spring and autumn, once every 20 days. If the potting soil is dry, water first before fertilizing to allow the nutrients to penetrate better. Top-dressing can use fully decomposed soybean cake water, fish intestine water, smelly egg water, and other liquid fertilizers, and pay attention to the concentration. If it is too light, the effect is not significant, and if it is too concentrated, it can burn the roots. The method of making liquid fertilizer at home is to put crushed soybean cake, fish intestines, etc., into a covered wide-necked bottle, add 2-4 times water, leaving one-third of the space at the top of the bottle, allowing it to ferment and decompose. After decomposition, dilute the clear liquid on top with 10-20 times water and apply every 15 days.
4. Light. Cacti are strong positive plants that enjoy ample sunlight. In winter, sunlight should be ensured as much as possible, and in summer, no shading is generally required for potted cacti, but it is best to move them indoors during high temperatures. Also, cacti prefer a well-ventilated growing environment, so try to place them near the windows for ventilation during hot weather.
5. Temperature. The suitable growing temperature for cacti is between 20-35°C. If the temperature exceeds 35°C in summer, they can easily get sunburned and their growth rate slows down, so it is necessary to water appropriately and cool down. If the temperature is below 7°C in winter, they can easily get frostbitten, and insulation measures should be taken.
