The Rat Tail Cactus often grows hanging on rocks or large trees, with thin and long stems that are creeping and branching, reaching up to 2 meters in length. They are bright green when young and turn gray-green later. They have shallow ridges and radial spines, with new spines being red and turning yellow to brown. They bloom from April to May, with bilaterally symmetrical pink flowers that open during the day and close at night. The fruit is spherical and red. It prefers abundant sunlight, well-drained and ventilated fertile soil, and can be mixed with decomposed leaf soil, sand, and loam. Rat Tail Cactus is one of the earliest varieties of cactus plants cultivated for ornamental purposes.
