How to Care for Golden Branch and Jade Leaf

Among the many succulents, the Golden Branch and Jade Leaf stands out with its emerald-like flesh leaves and its rustic and robust branches, making it a popular choice for indoor greenery. However, to keep this "living jade" in its best condition, it is necessary to master its unique growth habits and maintenance tips.

Three Key Elements of Environmental Control

Substrate Mixing Scheme

The care of the roots starts with the soil, and it is recommended to use a mix of garden soil, leaf mold, and perlite in a ratio of 4:4:2. This structure not only ensures the supply of nutrients but also allows the perlite granules to form drainage channels, preventing waterlogging and root suffocation. Bone meal can be added every spring to enhance soil activity.

Temperature Cycle System

15-30°C is the ideal growth range, and it is suggested to set a day-night temperature difference of 5-8°C. Special attention is needed in winter, and when the temperature drops below 10°C, the plant should be moved away from the window and covered with insulating film to maintain a temperature above 5°C for safe overwintering.

Light Rhythm Control

In spring and autumn, 4 hours of scattered light per day, and in summer, use the "morning light + shading" mode to avoid burns. In winter, the plant can tolerate full sunlight, but if there are consecutive cloudy and rainy days, a plant growth light should be used to supplement light for 2 hours daily to prevent枝条徒长变形 (branch elongation and deformation).

Water and Fertilizer Management System

Accurate Watering Mode

Use the "dry-wet alternating method" for watering, keeping the potting mix slightly moist during the growing period. In the high summer temperatures, combine with the "soaking method": immerse the pot in a water basin for 15 minutes to ensure deep soil absorption. In the winter dormant period, use the misting method to maintain air humidity.

Nutrient Supply Scheme

Use diluted organic liquid fertilizer (2000 times) from April to October, combined with slow-release fertilizer once every quarter. In September, apply additional phosphorus potassium fertilizer to enhance lignification, making the branches look more robust and ancient. Remember to rinse the leaves with water after fertilizing.

Advanced Maintenance Techniques

Shaping and Pruning Art

Prune the main stem in spring to promote branching, and use aluminum wire to shape the bonsai. After pruning, apply mycostatin to the cut surface and place it in a well-ventilated area for care. Retain 2-3 layers of leaves to create a layered effect, forming the classic "cloud-like" shape.

Changing Pots and Root Management

Change the potting soil every 2 years, keeping 1/3 of the heart soil. Thin out dense roots and apply rooting powder to the cut surfaces. After repotting, place the plant in a shady place for 7 days to gradually recover light intensity.

By precisely controlling the light cycle, scientifically mixing the cultivation substrate, properly managing the dry-wet rhythm, and combining regular shaping and maintenance, the Golden Branch and Jade Leaf can not only grow healthily but also exhibit its unique artistic value. Remember that observing the plant's condition is more important than strictly following a schedule, making the maintenance process a wonderful experience of communicating with the plant.
