About the Quality Identification Method of Houshi

Today I will explain the relevant topics of Houshi plants for netizens, including the quality identification method of Houshi. Let's take a look with the editor!

In recent years, more and more plant enthusiasts have become interested in Houshi. What kind of Houshi is considered good? Since this question is relatively complex, I will write down some identification methods that I think are operable, hoping they are helpful to everyone. What you like is a good Houshi, I strongly agree with this. But there are good and bad among the ones you like, so how to judge the good quality of Houshi can be comprehensively considered from the following points:

Wart Points: Whether they are large or extra-large warts, whether the wart points are whiter, or whether they are wart gardens, or whether they have gardens, whether the gardens are dense enough and orderly arranged, or whether the bristles stand; whether they are connected by obvious white lines, whether they have special shapes (such as donuts, spirals, spiky) and so on;

Star Points: Whether the star points are large, white, and dense, whether they are regularly arranged, and whether they have special shapes (such as V shape, whether the V shape is clear and thick) and so on;

Skin Color: Whether the skin color is bright, as smooth and delicate as jade, whether it has brocade, whether the brocade is uniform, whether it has silk brocade, or whether it is coffee Houshi and so on;

Flower Color: Whether it has a metallic luster, whether it has red flowers, deep red flowers, or whether it has Shozo (chrysanthemum-like filigree petals), whether the flower shape is large enough, and whether it is beautiful and so on;

Shape: Whether it is a seedling, whether the shape is large (large Houshi, such as奇迹 Houshi which can grow to over 20cm), whether it is flatter, whether it is starfish-shaped, whether the starfish is large enough, whether the ridges are flatter, whether the number of ridges is fewer or more (currently 5 ridges and 13 ridges are relatively rare) or spiral ridges, whether there are compound ridges, whether it is turtle shell, notched, divided and so on.

Combining the above points, if a Houshi has several or some outstanding features at the same time, then it is a relatively good quality Houshi. However, some Houshi only have one outstanding feature, such as deep red Houshi, due to the beautiful flower color, only this feature, as long as the shape is round, the star points are a bit sparse, and the ridges are higher, it is also a good variety. Of course, if it has other good features at the same time, it is even better.

Difference in Ridges: I randomly compared my two small balls, the first picture has a higher ridge on the glass Houshi, and the second one has almost no ridge, it is rounder and smoother, so the second one has relatively better quality.

Difference in Star Points: The star points in the first picture are smaller and sparse, the star points in the second picture are larger and denser, and the star points in the third picture are patchy and very dense, and the star points are very white. Among the three, the second one has better quality than the first, and the Houshi in the third picture has the best quality.

Difference in Wart Points: The first picture is a common star Houshi, with a certain distance between wart points, the second picture is a connected heart Houshi, with very small distance between wart points but not yet connected, only at the growing point where they connect, hence called connected heart Houshi. The connected star Houshi (no picture found, the picture in the Iwamuro Houshi manual cannot be cited). The wart points are tightly connected in a line from top to bottom, with no gaps between them. The third picture is a large wart Houshi, with much larger wart points than ordinary Houshi. Extra-large wart Houshi, with even larger wart points than large wart Houshi.

In the end, I present a Houshi that I think is quite good, the red flower奇迹 series Houshi, which has several of the outstanding features mentioned above: one, the red flower series; two, starfish-shaped; three, flat shape; four, flat ridges; five, dense star points, some connected in lines, prominent, textured, and regularly arranged; six, large shape, currently 10.5cm in size, and still increasing.

Supplement 1: Notched Houshi and Turtle Shell Houshi

Notched is an incomplete state of turtle shell, there is a groove between the wart points of Houshi, if this groove does not completely divide the ridge, it is called notched, if this groove completely divides the ridge, it is called turtle shell. The overall structure of turtle shell Houshi is more beautiful than notched Houshi.

Supplement 2: The concept of garden Houshi is generally that Houshi only produces flower buds and blooms on the wart points, if any position other than the wart points of Houshi blooms, such wart points are called gardens. Some of these gardens can bloom, and some cannot, they are all called gardens. If only the ridges have garden phenomena and other positions do not, it is called inter-ridge garden. If a wart point can bloom two or more flowers, it is called a wart garden. The quality distinction of garden Houshi mainly compares the number of gardens, the arrangement of gardens, the size and height of gardens, and whether the color of gardens is whiter, etc., other factors can be referred to as the flatness of the ridges, etc.

The comparison of the pictures of two gardens can show the superiority or inferiority:

Supplement 3: The distinction between good and bad variegated Houshi is that the variegation should be evenly distributed, without large patches of color, that is, it is best to have brocade on each ridge, the pattern of brocade should be散斑 (commonly known as tiger spots, silk brocade), the color of brocade should be contrasting, bright brocade is better than dark brocade. Next,琉璃 brocade is better than star-pointed brocade, of course, other features should also be considered, such as flat ridges, flat shape, high contrast base color, starfish, compound ridges, and so on.

The above is the experience and knowledge about the quality identification method of Houshi, I hope this article can bring you some help!
