How to Care for Newly Purchased Duranta Repens
Duranta repens potted plants purchased around the Spring Festival often arrive at their new home full of flower buds. As a perennial succulent plant, special attention needs to be paid to the management of the adaptation period for new Duranta repens seedlings. This article will systematically explain how to help newly purchased Duranta repens quickly adapt to the pot and successfully go through the adaptation period, from potting operations to daily care.
One, Timing and Techniques for Repotting
1.1 Seedling Management During the Slow Growth Period
Newly purchased Duranta repens should be placed in a well-ventilated area with scattered light for 7-10 days, and repotted after the plant has adapted to the new environment. The original pot is usually a 12cm temporary plastic pot, with the roots basically filled, and needs to be replaced with a breathable ceramic pot with a diameter of 15-18cm.
1.2 Key Points for Repotting Operations
Keep 2/3 of the original soil ball as protective soil, and place a 3cm layer of ceramic stones at the bottom for drainage. Use a special succulent soil mixed with perlite (in a ratio of 3:1), and after repotting, place it in a shaded area for 5 days to slow down the growth.
Two, Three-Part Environmental Regulation
2.1 Temperature Control
Maintain a constant temperature environment of 18-22°C, with a temperature difference of no more than 5°C. Avoid temperatures below 10°C in winter and strengthen ventilation when temperatures exceed 28°C in summer. The thermometer should be placed 30cm away from the plant for monitoring.
2.2 Light Adjustment
During the slow growth period, provide 7 days of shading treatment (illuminance ≤3000lux), gradually increasing to the normal maintenance range of 8000-12000lux. The plant needs to ensure 4 hours of direct sunlight daily during the flowering period.
2.3 Water Management
Use the "three-look watering method": look at the potting soil (dry to 2cm), the leaves (slightly soft), and the season (5-7 days/week in spring and autumn). Control each watering amount to 1/5 of the pot volume, and water slowly along the edge of the pot.
Three, Special Period Care
It is normal for 2-3 leaves to turn yellow after repotting, but continuous yellowing requires checking the roots. After flowering, trim the remaining flowers in time, leaving 2 pairs of leaves to promote branching. During the high summer temperatures, stop fertilizing and control watering, keeping the matrix slightly moist.
Through scientific slow growth treatment and meticulous care, the survival rate of newly purchased Duranta repens can reach 95% or more. Mastering the four elements of "slow, temperature, light, water," even gardening beginners can make Duranta repens bloom profusely every year, truly living up to its name of "longevity" in ornamental value.
