How to care for succulents to keep them healthy

The editor will tell you about how to care for succulents and the skills to make them thrive, as well as share some experience in the aspect of green plant maintenance. Let's learn about it together.

It is believed that most flower friends, like Hua Hua, start with a very cute succulent plant as their first pot of flowers. Succulents have always captured the hearts of countless flower friends with their soft and adorable appearance. However, succulent plants are not as easy to care for as flower friends imagine. It is somewhat challenging for新手 flower friends to grow succulents well. Today, Hua Hua is here to share 5 small experiences of my own in caring for succulents, hoping they can be of help to everyone!

1. Soil

Succulents prefer to grow in dry, loose, and breathable sandy soil, as this type of soil has better drainage and aeration, which is more suitable for succulent growth. Also, when you buy succulents from the flower market, it's best to choose a warm day to change their potting soil, as the soil they come with is not very suitable for their healthy growth.

2. Temperature

One important aspect of caring for succulents is to ensure a suitable growth temperature. Generally, a range of 15 to 25 degrees Celsius is best for their growth. However, as long as the temperature does not exceed 35 degrees or drop below 5 degrees, most succulents will not enter a dormant period and will continue to grow normally.

However, in ensuring a suitable temperature, it is also important to maintain good ventilation when caring for succulents. Otherwise, if they grow in a stuffy and hot environment for a long time, they will become very unenergetic, affecting their ornamental value.

3. Watering

Succulent leaves are relatively thick and have a certain water storage capacity, so they don't require much water. Generally, you can water them more frequently in spring and autumn, about once a week, once every two weeks in summer, and once a month in winter. Flower friends should also summarize their watering experience based on the actual condition of their succulents. Signs of dehydration, such as withered or soft leaves, are signals to water them thoroughly, which can help them recover gradually.

4. Light

Succulents also have certain requirements for light. They prefer sunny weather, and if flower friends can ensure they receive more than 8 hours of adequate sunlight every day, the succulents at home will grow very beautifully. Therefore, in spring, autumn, and winter, you can simply place them on a south-facing balcony or windowsill for care.

However, in summer, it's necessary to provide some shade for them, as too much sunlight can burn their leaves, preventing healthy growth or even endangering their lives.

5. Regularly changing potting soil

When caring for succulents, you can choose some small and exquisite pots that are breathable, like terra cotta or tile pots. If conditions allow, you can also use purple sand pots, which have better breathability and ornamental value.
