How to care for succulents
Today, the editor will explain how to care for succulents and teach you the correct methods for succulent maintenance. Here is an introduction to green plants and flowers for you in detail:
Succulents come in many types and shapes, with various leaf shapes and plant forms differing greatly. Compared to other potted plants, succulents generally have a smaller size, making them suitable for cultivation in small pots and even on small balconies. They do not have strict requirements for sunlight.
Especially for succulents in the Crassula family, they are more resilient and easy to care for. The color and state of succulents can change throughout the four seasons. In spring and autumn, when it is cooler and sunlight is abundant, the leaves of many succulents will change color, with some showing brighter colors along the edges or the entire leaf turning into a beautiful red. After coloring, succulents become more attractive and eye-catching, enhancing their beauty.
Beginners in succulent care do not need to choose high-end, rare, and expensive succulents. It is best to choose those that are hardy and easy to care for. Even ordinary, inexpensive succulents can be beautiful when well cared for. When they grow into full pots or become old plants, they remain beautiful and pleasing to the eye.
To care for succulents well, a few basic things need to be done right, and naturally, each succulent plant can be kept in good condition throughout the year, surviving the summer and winter smoothly, with healthy growth. The more you care for them, the better they look, and the more you will like them. Seeing them fresh and vigorous, with elegant plant forms, really brings a good mood every day!
How to care for succulents
1. Good soil is very important for succulent care
Although succulents can survive in sand, to make them grow more smoothly, stronger, and more beautiful, soil is essential. The potting soil should be loose, not sticky or compacted, and it must be nutritious, well-draining, not prone to waterlogging or compaction, and well-aerated.
In addition, it should contain certain nutrients, so when preparing the soil, adding peat and decomposed leaf soil is recommended. You can also add sandy soil, or some granular soil like vermiculite, pearl rock, and wheat stone. The soil should not clump together when squeezed and should be rich in humus. Such soil will allow succulents to continue growing, becoming fatter and more beautiful.
2. Light is important for succulent care
When the temperature is between 15 to 28 degrees Celsius, this is the most suitable temperature for succulent growth, and it is also when they grow fastest. At this time, you can increase sunlight exposure, appropriately raise them outdoors, and also supplement nutrients with a small amount of fertilizer, such as organic fertilizer, slow-release fertilizer, or chemical fertilizer. Make sure to apply a small amount at a time and avoid over-fertilizing or frequent fertilization.
