It is believed that most flower lovers, like Hua Hua, have grown their first pot of flowers, which is the adorable succulent plant. Succulents have always captured the hearts of thousands of flower lovers with their cute appearance. However, succulent plants are not as easy to care for as flower lovers imagine. It is still a bit challenging for beginner flower lovers to grow succulents well. Today, Hua Hua is here to share five of my own experiences in caring for succulents, hoping to help everyone!
1. Soil
Succulent plants prefer to grow in dry soil environments, with loose and breathable sandy soil being the main type, as this type of soil has good drainage and aeration, making it more suitable for succulent growth. Also, when buying succulents from the flower market, it is best to choose a warm day to change the potting soil for them, as the soil they come with is not very suitable for their healthy growth.
2. Temperature
It is also very important to ensure a suitable growth temperature for succulent plants, with a general range of 15 to 25 degrees being the best for their growth. However, as long as the temperature does not exceed 35 degrees or drop below 5 degrees, most succulent plants will not enter a dormant period and will continue to grow normally.
However, in addition to ensuring a suitable temperature, it is also important to ensure good ventilation when caring for succulents, as long-term growth in a stuffy and hot environment will make them look very unhealthy, affecting their ornamental value.
3. Watering
Succulent leaves are relatively thick and have some water storage capacity, so their water requirements are not high. Generally, watering can be more frequent in spring and autumn, about once a week, once every two weeks in summer, and once a month in winter. Flower lovers should also summarize their watering experience based on the actual situation of their own succulents. Signs of water shortage include wilted and soft leaves, and watering thoroughly can help them recover slowly.
4. Light
Succulent plants also have certain requirements for light. Succulents enjoy sunny weather, and if flower lovers can ensure they receive more than 8 hours of adequate sunlight every day, the succulents in their home will grow very beautifully. Therefore, placing them on a south-facing balcony or windowsill during spring, autumn, and winter is sufficient.
However, in summer, it is necessary to provide some shade for them, as too much sunlight can burn their leaves, preventing them from growing healthily, and even endangering their lives.
