Egg Mountain Rose Succulent Introduction

The Egg Mountain Rose is a type of succulent from the Crassulaceae Sempervivum genus. It is a classic and beautiful variety among mountain roses. During dormancy, the leaves will curl in towards the center, resembling a cabbage, and the color during dormancy is similar to that of an egg, hence the name.

The leaves of the Egg Mountain Rose are green to light yellow, with the yellow being more prominent during dormancy. During the growing season, the plant's leaves are a light green. There is a significant difference between young and mature plants, with the former having more or less reddish-brown stripes. These stripes basically fade away in mature plants, leaving the leaves clean and pure, with a textured feel. So far, I have not seen the Egg Mountain Rose bloom; when mature plants bloom, it indicates the end of their lifespan, and they need to be pollinated to propagate the next generation.

The Egg Mountain Rose requires plenty of sunlight, a cool and dry environment, and can tolerate semi-shade but is afraid of waterlogging and dislikes hot and humid conditions. It has the habit of growing in cool seasons and dormant in high summer temperatures. The growing period for the plant is from September to June of the following year (this varies depending on the environment of the plant enthusiasts). Insufficient light will cause the plant's leaves to elongate, and the heart of the dormant plant will be loose and not compact. Plants growing in full sun will have a short and sturdy shape, with leaves arranged tightly, and during dormancy, they will be very solid, resembling a hard ball. During the growing season, the soil should be kept moist but avoid waterlogging. In high summer temperatures, the plant's growth basically stops, and at this time, good ventilation and appropriate shading are needed to avoid direct sunlight, moderate watering, and prevent prolonged rain to avoid rotting. In cool seasons, the plant's leaves will gradually open up, and watering should be gradually increased to return to normal. This genus is relatively cold-tolerant but cannot withstand frost. The propagation of Egg Mountain Rose is generally through seeding.
