The Maintenance of Nenji莲
Plant Knowledge Series, sharing experience about the succulent plant Nenji莲. Here is the maintenance of Nenji莲, let our station editor introduce to you.
Nenji莲 Sedum clavatum, Crassulaceae Crassula, Nenji莲 is also called Maiden Peony and Ougi Peony because its leaves form a lotus seat and have a bright green color.
The plant of Nenji莲 is a perennial herbaceous plant with leaves that are bright green or light green. The leaves are oblong, alternate in a circular pattern, forming a lotus-like shape, smooth on the surface, flat on the front, convex on the back, thick and fleshy, covered with white powder, with longitudinal dark lines, and showing fine white granules like frozen fat. After being exposed to the sun, it emits a faint fragrance. The leaf tips are slightly pointed, and the leaf color becomes very beautiful under strong light, large day-night temperature differences, or during low winter temperatures. The leaf tips are often slightly red, while under weak light, the leaves turn light blue, become narrower and longer, and the branches easily become leggy. Nenji莲 has a clustered inflorescence with flowers that are white and red, and the stamens are pink.
Nenji莲 needs sufficient sunlight for the leaf color to be vibrant, the plant to be compact and beautiful, and the leaves to be thick. Nenji莲 is a small to medium-sized plant that needs to be repotted every 2-3 years depending on its growth state. The pot diameter can be 1-2 inches larger than the plant diameter to promote growth. The soil must be dry before watering, and a long-acting fertilizer can be applied once every quarter. Propagation is done through leaf insertion and cutting the top to burst small side buds, which can be done throughout the year.
The Nenji莲 kept by Kite is in a sunroom. Once the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, a shading net is used to block the sun, and then water is gradually reduced. During the entire summer dormant period, little or no water is given. When the temperature drops in mid-September, watering is resumed. Nenji莲 that has adapted to the sunroom can still grow normally in the summer, with the dormancy not being very noticeable. In winter, if the temperature can be maintained above 0 degrees, water can be given. Below 0 degrees, water should be stopped, otherwise it is easily frostbitten. Although it is cold in winter, it is not necessary to completely stop watering throughout the winter. A small amount of water can be given at the base of the plant at appropriate times. Avoid spraying or giving too much water, as water left in the leaf center for too long can cause rot. After the temperature rises in spring, normal watering can be gradually resumed. Nenji莲 is considered a very easy plant to care for. In addition to needing appropriate shading in the summer, it can be exposed to full sunlight in other seasons. Kite uses a mixture of peat and granular coal slag and river sand, with clean river sand laid on the soil surface. The soil is mainly for breathability, and home cultivation cannot match the natural environment, so water thoroughly when dry.
