How to propagate Yulu
A small plant knowledge, introducing everyone to the related knowledge of the succulent plant Yulu, how to propagate Yulu, please refer to the detailed introduction below.
Yulu division propagation
Yulu division can be combined with potting, or the young plants next to the mother plant can be dug during the growing season. Both rooted and unrooted plants can survive. Rooted plants can be planted directly, while unrooted seedlings should be dried for 1-2 days to let the wounds dry before planting. The newly planted plants should not be watered too much to avoid rot, and normal management can be carried out after new roots grow.
Yulu cutting propagation
Yulu will grow buds at the axils of the lower leaves of the plant. For varieties that do not easily produce buds, the growing point in the center of the plant can be damaged to encourage the growth of buds. After the buds grow to 2-3 cm, they can be removed, dried for 2-3 days, and then inserted into the culture soil. After insertion, keep the soil half-dry, and new roots can grow in 2-3 weeks.
Yulu leaf insertion propagation
Choose strong and full succulent leaves, and insert them into substrates such as vermiculite or coarse sand with good drainage during the growing period. Keep the potting soil slightly moist after insertion. The base of the succulent leaves easily develops roots and grows small buds. Once the buds are a bit larger, they can be planted separately.
Yulu seeding propagation
Yulu can only produce seeds through artificial pollination. This is usually done on a clear morning when the flowers are in bloom. The method is to choose two Yulu plants that are flowering at the same time, or use varieties such as Shou and Wanzhang from the same genus for pollination. The parent plants should have compact growth, thick leaves, and high transparency of the "window." During pollination, remove the petals, take the pollen, and apply it to the stigma of the flower of another plant. The pollen can also be taken the day before and carefully stored, then used for pollination the next morning, which has a higher success rate. Once the seeds are mature, they can be sown. The seeds can be sown immediately after collection, and the播种 soil can be mixed with 3 parts vermiculite and 2 parts decomposed leaf soil or peat soil. It is best to sterilize the soil with high temperature before sowing to eliminate bacteria and eggs in the soil. After sowing, cover with a glass plate, and seedlings should emerge in about 20 days. Remove the glass plate after seedlings appear, ensure proper ventilation, and do not let the soil become too dry. When seedlings are too crowded, they should be transplanted.
Some of the seedlings may show variations. Those with compact growth, thick succulent leaves, high transparency of the "window," and distinct veins can be selected and preserved as seedlings. If there are seedlings with different leaf colors, they should also be preserved, as they might be a precious variegated mutation.
The above detailed introduction about how to propagate Yulu (four methods) is hoped to bring some flower knowledge to flower enthusiasts.
