Black Magic Variegated Aeonium
Today, I would like to share some experience with the Black Magic Variegated Aeonium, specifically known as Aeonium. Here are the details:
Black Magic Variegated Aeonium arboreum var rubrolineatum belongs to the Crassulaceae family, Aeonium genus.
The Black Magic Variegated Aeonium is a variegated variety of the Black Magic plant. The leaves grow at the top of the stem and at the tips of the branches, forming a rosette-like leaf disk. The diameter of the leaf disk can reach up to 10 centimeters, with green leaves spotted with dark purple. In low light, the leaves tend to turn green. The leaf tips have small spikes, and the edges have eyelash-like villi. The plant's condition differs under strong and weak light. According to information, the flowers form large paniculate inflorescences, small yellow flowers, and the plant usually dies after flowering. Therefore, I have never had the chance to see them bloom.
Growth habits:
They prefer a warm, dry, and sunny environment, are drought-resistant, can tolerate temperatures as low as -3 degrees Celsius if the potting soil is kept dry, and the leaves will slightly freeze and droop at -3 degrees Celsius. However, this is not a problem as the plant will recover when the temperature rises. They can tolerate partial shade, but if left in the shade for too long, the leaves will turn green and easily grow tall. It's best not to expose them to direct sunlight in the summer; some shading is sufficient.
The soil should be fertile, well-draining, and breathable for cultivation. I use a mixture of coal slag, peat, vermiculite, and perlite, which provides good aeration. The Black Magic Variegated Aeonium grows very明显 in cool seasons, and it will briefly enter dormancy in the summer due to high temperatures but for a short period. During the entire summer, I water them generously. With a good root system, there won't be any problems.
The propagation of Black Magic Variegated Aeonium can be done in early spring by cutting the rosette leaf disk and planting it. The remaining stem will produce many suckers. It is a very easy-to-propagate variety. If not pruned, it can grow very tall.
