Cleaning and Dealing with Dried Leaves of Succulent Plants
The editor will explain the experience of growing succulent plants, including the cleaning of succulent leaves and the handling of dried leaves. Let's follow the editor to see the details!
【Cleaning Leaves】
Everyone should be familiar with this situation: many small offshoots grow at the base of succulent leaves, and usually, there is no need to worry about this. However, since most of our succulents are planted in pots rather than growing in the wild, it is common for the bottom leaves to squeeze the young plants. Especially in summer, if there are too many bottom leaves, they can easily suffocate the young plants at the base. In this case, we can remove all the leaves around the young plants. The removed leaves can still be used for propagation, and the extra space allows the young plants to grow better. After some growth, they will become the so-called "clustered" succulents.
【Handling Dried Leaves】
The bottom leaves of succulent plants often show signs of drying up, falling off, or becoming transparent. The former is a normal metabolic process of succulents and there is no need to worry. When the leaves are completely dry and can be easily removed, you can take them off and discard them. Accumulated dried leaves for a long time can easily become infected with diseases and pests, especially in summer when they can create a closed and hot environment, so they must be cleaned. Do not remove the dry leaves that are not easy to take off, as forcing them off can hurt the plant itself. The transparency is mostly due to the succulents being newly bought and planted, and sudden changes in the growing environment causing discomfort. This is also not something to worry too much about, and no management is needed. The transparent leaves will gradually dry up or become watery. Just clean them up, but these should be observed closely as the stem of the succulent might develop mold and turn black due to the leaves becoming watery. The drying and falling off of the bottom leaves, combined with the normal phenomenon of the succulent stem growing taller, will result in the formation of an "old stem."
【Phenomenon of Leaf Cracking】
Some succulents may show signs of leaf cracking, and I can't really explain what causes this. I do have a few plants at home that exhibit this, but it doesn't affect the growth of the succulents. When the growing season comes, new leaves will grow out, and the cracked leaves will eventually dry up and fall off. So there is no need to worry too much, just continue to care for them as usual. In the photo below, new leaves have already grown above the cracked leaves.
The above is[] about cleaning and dealing with dried leaves of succulent plants, and it is hoped that it can be of help to you in your life!
