Euphorbia obesa, belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family and Euphorbia genus, is native to the Cape Province of South Africa. The plant is spherical, capable of growing to over 10 cm in diameter, usually solitary, but some plants may develop offspring balls from the base of the spherical body over time. It has a carrot-like fleshy root, with a gray-green or green spherical body adorned with dark white crisscrossing stripes, which are denser near the top. The spherical body has 8 ridges, with rounded leaf scars and small brownish blunt teeth on the ridge. The flower stalks of the Bump Ball are clustered, with yellow flowers that are easy to pollinate between different plants. After flowering and fruiting, the seed pods should be removed promptly, as the seeds will be lost once the pods crack open. The sap of the Bump Ball is white and toxic; do not ingest it. Avoid touching the sap that comes out of wounds, as it can easily cause skin allergies.
