Fifty Bells
For many girls, the cultivation of the succulent plant Fifty Bells (Fenestraria aurantiaca), basic care, the following is an introduction by the editor for everyone.
Fifty Bells Fenestraria aurantiaca (Window plant)——Aizoaceae club leaf flower genus, also known as orange club leaf flower. This variety that I both love and hate, I bought five pots and still have one left, placed outside for sun and rain, in very good condition. I hope my personal experience in caring for Fifty Bells can provide some inspiration for all flower friends.
I. Distribution: Distributed in South Africa.
II. Morphological characteristics: Succulent plant, the plant is very fleshy, densely clustering. The leaves are club-shaped, thickened at the top, flat, gray-green, slightly reddish at the bottom, with transparent dots on the leaf surface, and the protruding parts are completely transparent; flowering from September to December, the scape is 4-6 cm long, the flower diameter is 3-7 cm, golden yellow, needs cross-pollination for propagation.
III. Growth habits and care:
1. Habits: Prefers warm and sunny conditions, highly drought-resistant. 15-30 degrees Celsius is the best growth temperature for Fifty Bells, below or above this temperature range, the plant grows slowly or dormant;
2. Light: Autumn to winter to spring is the peak growing season, during which I usually place the Fifty Bells on the south-facing balcony inside, with 3-4 hours of direct sunlight per day, and the rest of the time with bright scattered light, which can avoid sunburn on the leaf surface and maintain the compactness and beautiful color of the Fifty Bells leaves. In summer, place the Fifty Bells on the east or north-facing outdoor balcony, mainly to maintain good ventilation and prevent the plant from rotting in the high temperature and humidity season. Especially for flower friends in the Jiangnan region, it is particularly important to place it outside. During the plum rain season, care should be taken not to let rainwater soak the plant;
3. Watering: It is best to use the immersion method, watering from the bottom of the pot, the water level should not exceed two-thirds of the pot, about 15 seconds is enough. The timing of watering is when the leaves look wrinkled, then immerse the pot, and the leaves will be full after 6 hours of watering. Reduce the amount of watering in summer, and you can also use foliar spray (quickly passing through);
4. Fertilizing: Can be combined with immersion method, dissolve granular compound fertilizer (about 10 particles) in water, or mix with liquid fertilizer, pay attention to applying thin fertilizer frequently, fertilizing 5-6 times a year;
5. Potting soil: Choose an affordable medium here. Proportion: 4 parts of special corrupted soil for succulents, 2 parts of coarse sand, 2 parts of orchid stone, 1 part of pottery granules, 1 part of perlite, and a small amount of red jade soil (optional);
6. Propagation: Mainly using the seed propagation method, you can refer to the article "On the Simple Seed Propagation of Lithops and Conophytum", the best pot to use is a clay pot or ceramic pot. Of course, for large Fifty Bells, you can also use division propagation, cut with a sharp tool (must be disinfected), and the wound must be dried.
