How to care for Ji Yulu

The editor introduces you to the relevant knowledge of the succulent plant Ji Yulu, how to care for Ji Yulu, and the editor will provide you with detailed answers below.

Many flower enthusiasts are captivated by Ji Yulu but do not know how to care for it. After several years of exploration, I have gradually understood some techniques for maintaining Yulu in a home environment. Along the way, I have also encountered many newcomers who, like me in the past, are attracted to Yulu but are troubled by numerous technical issues. In order to help newcomers take fewer detours, I would like to share some of my humble opinions here, wishing them an early experience of the joy of cultivation. My personal opinions may not be correct, and any inappropriate points should be criticized and corrected by fellow experts.

I. Different seasons' performance of Yulu

The suitable temperature for Yulu growth is between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, and humidity should be between 70-90%. Taking Shanghai as an example, the spring and autumn seasons are suitable for Yulu growth, and Yulu grows rapidly, often with insufficient internal sap, resembling an underinflated balloon with a slightly low luster on the window surface. In summer, with high temperatures, Yulu stops growing and enters dormancy, the window surface turns white and transparency decreases. In winter, indoor temperatures should be maintained above 5 degrees, with slow growth and a semi-dormant state, the internal sap is full, like an inflated balloon, with the highest luster and best transparency on the window surface.

II. Watering in different seasons

In spring and autumn, when the temperature is suitable and Yulu starts to grow vigorously, it indicates that the roots are strong. After the potting soil dries, you can water the soil thoroughly, place it in a ventilated area for a few days to remove excess moisture, and then keep it humid. In summer, with high temperatures, Yulu stops growing, the window surface transparency decreases, and the rootlets dry up, losing their water absorption ability, so watering should be stopped. You can mist in the evening to moisten the leaves to relieve leaf shrinkage. In winter, if the temperature is above 10 degrees, Yulu will still grow slowly, maintaining slightly moist potting soil. This is the most suitable time for keeping it humid, to increase window surface transparency and enhance its ornamental value. When the minimum temperature drops to 5 degrees, frostbite prevention is needed. After Yulu is frostbitten, the window surface turns white, affecting its appearance.

III. How to manage your own small environment

The mentioned suitable environmental humidity for Yulu is between 70-90%. Clearly, it is necessary to create a humid environment for keeping it. Specific methods include: placing a plastic cup on the pot; DIY using an empty oil drum; covering the fish tank with plastic film or a glass plate; building a small cabinet or shed with glass or polycarbonate; using stainless steel to separate the anti-theft window, with glass on top to prevent rain, and three sides covered with polycarbonate or thick film, etc. It should be noted that in smaller spaces, temperature and humidity can fluctuate sharply, which is not good for the plant. In spring and autumn, the temperature between 12:00-15:00 can rise to as high as 40-50 degrees, so ventilation should be opened before going to work in the morning, and the cover should be put on in the evening to humidify. In summer, high temperature and high humidity are fatal to Yulu, so ventilation and cooling are the main focus, and you can mist in the evening on sunny days. Winter is the most suitable time for keeping it humid, which can keep the temperature warm and increase the transparency of the window surface, enhancing its ornamental value.

IV. How to prepare soil and potting

First, place larger particles of orchid stone at the bottom of the pot, put Yulu in and let the roots spread out, hold Yulu with one hand and pour in particle soil mixed with a small amount of peat along the four walls until half of the pot, and finally pour in particle soil up to 0.5 cm from the pot edge to finish.

The above is all about how to care for Ji Yulu. Have green plant enthusiasts understood it?
