Knowledge of succulent plant cultivation: Golden Barrel cactus potting and care

If you want to learn about the experience of growing the Golden Barrel cactus, here is the knowledge of succulent plant cultivation: Golden Barrel cactus potting and care. Let's learn about it together.

Many cacti enthusiasts are fond of the Golden Barrel cactus for its majestic and powerful appearance, but often encounter difficulties in maintenance. Factors such as temperature, potting soil, and watering are困扰ing everyone, but the cultivation of any plant improves with practice. Here I share my experience in growing and caring for the cactus, hoping to help everyone. This year, I started growing two怒琥 and two狂刺 at home, all without roots. Now they have all rooted and are doing well. Therefore, a Golden Barrel cactus without roots is not可怕, and rooting is not that difficult.

1. The season for growing Golden Barrel cactus is important, and temperature is even more crucial. In general, the best time to start in Beijing is mid-April when the temperature is stable. A temperature above 15 degrees Celsius is suitable for planting, and spring is the best season. Autumn is also a good time to grow, and it can survive the winter if well cared for.

2. Don't rush to plant the Golden Barrel cactus you bought home. Check if the roots are wet or not. Whether wet or dry, place it in a dry area first to let it adapt to the environment, and also allow it to heal any bruises it may have sustained during transportation. The balcony is a good place for this, as it is dry and well-ventilated, just avoid direct sunlight. Leave it for 4 days, and if the wound is large, extend the time appropriately, but rest assured it won't die. Ceramic pots look good but are not practical, while plastic pots can rot in a few days. Terra cotta and tile pots are the most suitable.

3. Once the wounded parts of the Golden Barrel cactus have healed or the roots are dry, you can plant it in the soil. Don't bury it too deep, just place it on top. Use small pieces of soil and pot, with a mixture of 4 parts coal slag + 4 parts vermiculite + 2 parts soil. Do not water it. After a week, water thoroughly, but do not pour water on the ball. It's best to let the water be absorbed from the bottom of the pot, and place it in a well-ventilated and dry area to grow roots first. Generally, it should not be exposed to the sun after watering, and can be placed in the sun after three days. Then just wait. Usually, roots will appear after 10 days. Do not water for 10 days after the roots have grown, as it may affect root development. The ball may shrink or even wither, which is normal because the roots require moisture. After the roots have grown, you can check by lifting it. If there are small roots, place it on top. After more than ten days, when it is estimated to have grown sufficiently, gently push the ball with your hand to see if it can stay in place. The more roots, the more stable it is. Once the roots are well-grown, you can place it in the sun. Be careful not to pour water on the ball when watering. Water occasionally, and it's fine if you don't water for a month. Don't water too frequently. Don't worry, just like people, it takes time to adapt to a new environment.

Don't be afraid if it dies in a short time. If you leave it alone, it will not die easily, except for rotting. If it dries out after rooting, there's nothing you can do. If you leave it alone, it will root on its own. Once it has rooted, it will be very happy.

4. The狂刺 Golden Barrel cactus is the hardest to root. It took nearly a month for my狂刺 to root. It was originally in a greenhouse and had a weak constitution and poor adaptability. However, it is still surviving with my rooting method. I put it on the balcony for more than ten days, and it was very lively when I bought it, with plenty of moisture. It took 15 days to dry in the soil before I watered it. If you plant it in the soil immediately, it will rot even without watering. In the end, it compromised and gave in to me. I remember that when I planted it, the spines were dry, haha, it wouldn't survive if I didn't treat it that way. The roots that grew later were almost coming out of the pot.

5. When watering the Golden Barrel cactus, water according to the size of the ball, and the potting soil must be breathable and well-ventilated. The fastest evaporation rate will prevent root rot. If it absorbs all the water after watering, that's fine, but if not, it will rot. Therefore, watering is to let it drink. If you water too much, it won't be able to drink it all, and problems will arise in the pot.

6. The Golden Barrel cactus is easiest to care for when it is between 7-15 centimeters in size. Small ones lack moisture and are not easy to root, eventually becoming hollow, while large ones retain moisture and root late, making it difficult.

The above is the complete introduction to the knowledge of succulent plant cultivation: Golden Barrel cactus potting and care, for everyone to learn and understand!
