On September 4th, technicians from the Longling Xiahei Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve in Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, discovered a new record species in China,缅甸 Ball兰花, during a field patrol. According to experts,缅甸 Ball兰花 is originally distributed in the northern and western parts of Myanmar and the eastern part of India. The discovery of缅甸 Ball兰花 in Longling has increased the number of Ball兰花 species in the Longling Xiahei Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve to 10, and added a new distribution point for缅甸 Ball兰花 within China. As a result, the number of Ball兰花 species has increased from 9 to 10.
Myanmar Ball兰花 Appearance
According to Tan Yunhong, Myanmar Ball兰花 is a succulent plant with semi-shrub characteristics, yellow corolla in the shape of a five-pointed star, slightly wrapped, pink secondary corolla in the shape of a star, and the flowers have a faint lemon fragrance. Myanmar Ball兰花 is similar to the pandanus Ball兰花, with leaves in a narrow triangular lanceolate shape, but the Myanmar Ball兰花 corolla is cup-shaped, and the corolla lobes do not bend backward after flowering, making them easy to distinguish.
Myanmar Ball兰花 Distribution
Myanmar Ball兰花 has a narrow distribution area in China, mainly distributed in the nature reserves of Yunnan. According to Tan Yunhong, Myanmar Ball兰花 is currently found only in the Tongbi Pass Provincial Nature Reserve, Jingdong Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve, and Longling Xiahei Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve in Yunnan.
From the distribution area, all known distribution points of Myanmar Ball兰花 are located within protected areas, which to some extent reflects the important role of various nature reserves in biodiversity conservation and other aspects.
