Methods to Promote Germination of Flower Seeds

Plant Knowledge Series, sharing experiences in flower propagation with you, methods to promote germination of flower seeds, details are as follows:

1. Chemical Treatment: Various grass flower seeds are treated with chemicals, then rinsed clean, and germinated until the radicle appears before sowing.

(1) Treatment with 0.2% Thiourea Solution: For flowers like Leaf Peony, Pine Leaf Peony, etc.

(2) Treatment with 0.2% Potassium Nitrate Solution: For flowers like Snapdragon,凤仙花 (FLOS SEMPERVIVUS), Marigold, Cosmos, Celosia, Butterfly Flower, Viola, Dwarf Morning Glory, Beauty of the Night, and Firecracker Flower.

(3) Treatment with 25×10^(-6) GA Solution: For flowers like Salvia, Dwarf Morning Glory, and荷苞花 (HOLLYHOCK).

(4) Treatment with 100×10^(-6) GA Solution: For flowers like Zinnia, Cyclamen, Begonia, Cattleya, Primula, and Salvia.

2. Temperature Treatment:

(1) Low-Temperature Treatment: Flowers like Ancient Rarities, Fukurin, and Flower Lettuce, placed at 5℃ for 3 days can germinate smoothly.

(2) Variable-Temperature Treatment: Implement a 24-hour cycle of variable temperature treatment, for example, Dwarf Morning Glory at 20℃ for 18 hours and 30℃ for 6 hours, or 20℃ for 16 hours and 30℃ for 18 hours, and Black Seed and Red Silk Tree at 20℃ for 8 hours in a cycle of variable temperature.

3. Warm Water Treatment: Seeds like Cyclamen and Begonia soaked in 45℃ warm water for 10 hours, then filtered and germinated, can germinate smoothly.

4. Boiling Water Treatment: Seeds of coconut-like plants, after being treated with boiling water, can germinate smoothly.

5. Stratification Method: Seeds of Rosaceae plants placed in moist soil at 5℃ and cultivated for 90-100 days can germinate smoothly.

6. Light Treatment:

(1) Photophilic: For photophilic seeds, such as Hoary Stock, Sweet Alyssum,四季秋海棠 (Four Seasons Begonia), Rieger Begonia, Rooted Begonia, African Marigold, Snapdragon, Salvia, etc., use a transparent and good-quality material as the sowing medium, such as Vermiculite or Perlite.

(2) Photophobic: For photophobic seeds, after sowing, place them in a dark place (should be moved to a bright place after germination) or fully cover the soil, such as Red Silk Tree, Butterfly Flower, Phlox, Dayflower, Black Seed, Marigold, Marigold,孔雀草 (Peacock Flower), Lady's Mantle, and 三色重 (Tricolor重叠).
