Cyclamen Four Seasons Management
A little plant knowledge, introducing the planting content of the corm flower Cyclamen, the four-season management of Cyclamen, the following is a detailed sharing.
Cyclamen is also known as Carrot Begonia, Rabbit Ears Flower, First-Rate Crown, etc., belonging to the Primulaceae family of perennial rhizomatous herbs; native to southern Europe, Tunisia, and the near East; it prefers warm and humid climates and fertile, loose, well-draining sandy loam soil. Due to its unique leaf shape, distinctive flower shape, bright flower color, and blooming period coinciding with New Year's Day and the Spring Festival, it is adored by people. However, the care and management of Cyclamen require some effort.
I. Spring Management
The spring climate is cool and suitable for Cyclamen growth. At the end of April, repot during the late blooming stage, using a mixture of 2 parts decomposed leaf soil, 1 part garden soil, and 1 part sand, which must be disinfected. Add 3 grams of slow-release compound fertilizer per kilogram of soil, with a nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium ratio of 1:6:1. After repotting, avoid direct sunlight. In early May, apply a compound fertilizer of about 3 grams, with a nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium ratio of 1:1:4. Water with clean water to keep the potting soil moist.
II. Summer Management
In mid-May, move Cyclamen outdoors to a ventilated shade house that does not leak rain, water once a week with clean water, and frequently sprinkle water around the pot to lower the temperature, keeping Cyclamen in a semi-dormant state. Do not let it grow naturally, so it is not suitable for fertilizing.
III. Autumn Management
In autumn, it is the suitable growing period for Cyclamen. Repot in early September using a mixture of 4 parts decomposed leaf soil, 3 parts garden soil, and 3 parts sand, which must be disinfected. Repotting method: Remove the plant from the pot, wash away the soil with clean water, cut off the old roots below 3 cm, soak in 75% carbendazim 600 times solution for 30 minutes, then let it dry before planting it in a pot one size larger than the original. When repotting, add organic bottom fertilizers such as cake fertilizer and bone meal. Plant with the bulb 1/3 exposed above the soil, and be careful not to let the bulb get wet when watering. After repotting, provide appropriate shade. One month after repotting, apply a liquid compound fertilizer. In October, move Cyclamen indoors. Maintain an indoor temperature of 15-18°C. Water when the soil is dry, not on a fixed schedule. Also, remove overly long leaves and yellow old leaves, tidy up the plant to ensure good ventilation and light inside the plant.
IV. Winter Management
1. Temperature: In December, Cyclamen starts to bloom and continues to form buds. The temperature during this period should be maintained at 15-18°C, with the lowest temperature not below 10°C. Too high temperature will shorten the blooming period. Do not place the pot on a radiator.
2. Water: Water only when the potting soil is dry, and water thoroughly until water seeps from the bottom of the pot. Do not water directly onto the bulb. The correct watering method is to pour water directly onto the potting soil. Also, pay attention to the water temperature and quality, with the water temperature close to the room temperature and using settled soft water.
3. Light: Cyclamen is a light-loving plant. Seedlings require less light. In the growing stage, it should be placed in a sunny area.
4. Fertilizing: Cyclamen continuously consumes nutrients during the bud formation and blooming process. Generally, apply a compound fertilizer every two weeks, with a nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium ratio of 1:1:3, and a dosage of 3-4 grams for a medium-sized plant. Supplement microelement fertilizers according to growth conditions.
5. Flower Picking: To extend the blooming period, remove the fully bloomed flowers in time. After picking the flowers, apply a fungicide to prevent decay.
6. Disease and Pest Control: Remove withered and yellow old leaves. Regularly spray fungicides and insecticides such as 50% carbendazim 1000 times solution, 70% methyl thiophanate 1500 times solution, and 40% omethoate 1500 times solution.
