Introduction to the Reproduction Methods of Lycoris
This article brings you the experience of reproducing Lycoris, an introduction to its reproduction methods, let's take a look together!
Lycoris Reproduction
1. Reproduction methods include bulb division, seeding, cutting the basal scales, and tissue culture, with bulb division being the main method. The simplest method is bulb division, where after the dormant period or flowering, the plant is dug up, and the daughter bulbs near the mother bulb are taken and planted. It takes about one to two years to bloom. Types like Clivia, fireball flower, Crinum, and Ornithogalum, which are easy to set seeds, can also be propagated by seeding, but it usually takes two to five years to bloom. For large bulbs like Amaryllis and fireball flower, the large bulbs can be cut radially into eight to sixteen pieces and inserted into a clean sand bed, and new plants can grow in about three to four months.
2. Basal scale cutting method: The cleaned bulb base is cut into an eight-pointed star shape, with a cutting depth of about 1/2 to 2/3 of the length of the bulb. After disinfection and drying in the shade, it is inserted into a moist matrix such as sand or perlite. After three months, adventitious buds can be seen at the junction of scales and the basal plate, gradually forming small bulbils, which can be cultivated into seedlings after separation.
3. Tissue culture propagation method: Using MS medium, taking the flower stem and ovary as explant materials, callus can be produced at the incision after cultivation. Adventitious roots can form after one month, and adventitious buds can form after three to four months. Using flower stems and scaly leaves as explant materials can also produce adventitious buds and bulbils.
4. Seeding method: Generally used only for hybrid breeding. Since the seeds do not have a dormancy period, they should be sown immediately after collection, and radicles can be seen after 15 days at 20°C. In natural conditions, only a few seedlings will sprout a leaf in the first growing cycle, and they can be transplanted once during the seedling stage. It takes about four to five years from seeding to flowering.
Cultivation can be done in the open field, greenhouse potting, box cultivation, or hydroponics.
