How to deal with raw daylilies

This article introduces some knowledge about edible daylilies, how to deal with raw daylilies, and the editor will explain next.

Daylilies are a delicious vegetable, but there are many precautions when it comes to daylilies, mainly because they contain a substance called colchicine. If not handled properly, it can easily cause painless diarrhea. Therefore, how to handle raw daylilies is very important. How to safely handle colchicine in daylilies?

Two methods for processing daylilies:

1. If you don't process the flower core, blanch in boiling water for one to two minutes, then soak in cold water for more than three hours, changing the water twice during this period. After that, you can stir-fry with eggs, meat, or make soup, etc. Colchicine is afraid of heat and will decompose after heating.

2. Remove the flower bud directly when picking, so the processed daylilies will not contain colchicine. You can then blanch briefly in boiling water, about ten seconds, to retain the best flavor and freshness. After that, cool with cold water, drain the water, add salt, sugar, vinegar, or other seasonings you like, mix well, marinate for a few minutes, and then serve. It has a refreshing aroma and a yellow-green color. This is my favorite method, even better than scrambled eggs.

When is the best time to pick daylilies

The timing of picking daylilies is difficult to grasp. There is a significant difference in nutrients and flavor between daylilies after blooming and before blooming. Therefore, daylilies after blooming are considered waste and discarded. The best time to pick daylilies is when they are about to bloom, the petals are slightly loose, the flower bud mouth is slightly open, but still in a棒-shaped form. At this point, you can smell a refreshing aroma, and the nutrients are all concentrated in the petals, with the highest yield.
