Rixianggui was discovered in 1983 within the territory of Cangxi County, Sichuan Province, as a rare courtyard fragrant species. It is a variant of the sweet osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans), named for its continuous blooming and strong fragrance. Its branches and leaves have many divisions, short internodes, and slower nutritional growth. The leaves are smooth and green, with shallow and few锯齿 on the edges. Rixianggui prefers neutral to acidic soil, has a wide adaptability, strong resistance, can safely overwinter at -7℃, does not hibernate above 0℃, and can be cultivated in pots in the northern regions. Rixianggui begins to sprout branches and leaves when the average temperature is above 7℃, with new shoots appearing three to four times a year. The inflorescences open multiple or continuously from the leaf axils. The flowers are light yellow, 6-10 millimeters in diameter, and bloom continuously from September of the current year to April of the next year, for a period of over 8 months, with 1-2 blooms each month from May to August, basically flowering throughout the year. The peak blooming period of Rixianggui is in spring and autumn, with a particularly strong fragrance that surpasses that of golden osmanthus and silver osmanthus.
