The watering method for potted camellias
Here is a share on the watering method for potted camellias, knowledge about flowers. Next, the editor will introduce it to you.
Watering Time
The watering time for potted camellias varies with the season. It is best to water in the morning or afternoon during spring and autumn, in the morning before 10 o'clock or in the evening during summer when the climate is hot, and in the afternoon during winter when the temperature is relatively low. Avoid watering during the sunny noon, especially in summer, as the high temperature can cause a sudden drop in soil temperature after watering, which is not conducive to root growth and thus affects the normal growth of the plant. The dryness and wetness of the camellia potting soil is not only related to the season and weather conditions but also to temperature, humidity, duration of sunlight, degree of shade, and soil water retention capacity.
The dryness and wetness of the camellia potting soil may not be the same even in the same season and weather. It can be determined whether to water by observing the dryness and wetness of the potting soil. There are three methods: one is to observe the color of the soil, white for dry and black for wet; the second is to listen to the sound of the pot, crisp for dry and dull for wet; the third is to feel the soil, hard for dry and soft for wet. Using the above methods of observation, listening, and pinching to determine whether to water the potted camellias is relatively scientific and reasonable.
For watering potted Yunnan camellias, direct irrigation combined with foliar spray is generally used. You can use a water dipper or a long-necked watering pot, or a plastic tube for watering. When watering, pay attention to the flow rate of the water, trying to wet the potting soil evenly and slowly, especially when using a plastic tube due to water pressure issues. It is best to place a layer of pine needles or a piece of tile on the surface of the potting soil to prevent it from being eroded by the water.
Each watering must be thorough, until water flows out of the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. Avoid watering halfway, leaving the soil wet on top and dry underneath. For potted camellias with leaves slanting or slightly lighter green due to poor management and excessively dry soil, do not water thoroughly immediately. First, move the plant to a shaded area, water a little to slightly moisten the potting soil, and then water thoroughly in 2 to 3 stages, allowing the plant to gradually adapt and recover normal growth.
In times of drought or high temperatures, you can increase foliar spraying, once a day, either in the morning or evening. Foliar spraying not only increases the humidity of the small environment but also washes away dust from the leaves, making them clean and beautiful. This is conducive to photosynthesis and respiration, and reduces the occurrence of diseases and pests.
