Jianzi Mu is a shrub with opposite leaves that have fine teeth on the edges and petioles. The cymose panicle forms a pyramidal inflorescence, terminal, with pink to red or deep rose petals, ovate, usually with a projecting tip that is pubescent; the fruit is ovoid or ovate. The whole plant has medicinal value and is effective in clearing heat and stopping diarrhea; it is commonly used to treat dysentery, diarrhea, and ulcers.
