Orchids are shade-loving plants, suitable for growing in semi-shaded environments with scattered light. The growing environment of orchids must maintain soft light, because orchids also cannot do without light. Lack of light can lead to poor growth and development of orchids, causing the stems and leaves to elongate excessively, and easily resulting in yellowing and thinning of the leaves.
Orchids Exposed to Sunlight
Although orchids are shade-loving plants, it does not mean that they can only grow in dark, lightless places. Orchids can also be exposed to sunlight. As green plants, orchid leaves need to perform photosynthesis to produce nutrients. Without light, the plant will not grow well. However, orchids are sensitive to direct sunlight, so it is best to receive scattered light. Never expose them to direct sunlight or excessive exposure, as prolonged exposure can cause leaf burns and sunburn.
Orchid Lighting
Orchids need scattered light because they are suitable for growing in well-ventilated, cool, and shaded environments. The term "shade" refers to being sheltered from direct sunlight, so there needs to be some light, not a completely dark environment. In the absence of light, the growth of orchids is abnormal, the leaves become weak, easily bend and fall over, which can affect blooming. Severe cases can lead to poor growth, loss of chlorophyll, and whitening phenomena, becoming weaker with each generation until death.
