Cyclamen blossoming period management methods

A small tip for life, introducing the knowledge of Cyclamen blossoming period management, let's learn about it together.

The flowering period of Cyclamen can be from September to the following May. In winter, if not protected properly, it is easy to cause flower and bud drop. Especially at the end of autumn and the beginning of winter, cold currents often occur. When Cyclamen is attacked by cold currents, it will stop growing due to frostbite, which can lead to a large number of buds falling off.

If the potting soil is too dry during the flowering period, or there is a sudden change in temperature, a large temperature difference between day and night, or the temperature drops below 0°C, these conditions can also easily cause flower and bud drop.

Too much watering in the early stage of bud formation can lead to bud drop.

So, how to manage Cyclamen in winter to prevent bud drop and make it bloom beautiful flowers? You can start from the following aspects:

In terms of watering. The temperature is low in winter, and the water in the potting soil evaporates slowly. Try to control watering and keep the potting soil slightly moist.

In terms of fertilizing. For Cyclamen that is budding and developing, you can spray 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution on the leaves and buds every 7 to 10 days, or you can apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate by watering until the buds open. Do not fertilize during the flowering period. For Cyclamen that has not budded, there is no need to fertilize in winter.

In terms of lighting. Cyclamen should ensure that it can receive 6 to 8 hours of sunlight every day in winter.

In terms of thinning buds. If Cyclamen has too many buds, it will also affect the quality of flowering. Therefore, some buds must be thinned. Keep one strong bud at the end of each node, and the rest can be thinned. This will promote the growth of the buds and make the flowers more colorful.

If you want Cyclamen to bloom regularly, you need to manually control the flowering period. For example, if you want it to bloom during the National Day, you can start from early August. Move it to a dark room or cover it with a black plastic bag every afternoon at 4 o'clock, make holes for ventilation in a place not exposed to sunlight, and let it see light again at 8 o'clock the next morning until the buds form. Then return to normal management. In this way, the flower buds will differentiate earlier, and you can see flowers in October.

If you want the plant to bloom earlier, you can move it to a place with a temperature above 20°C after it has budded. It will bloom in November.

If you want to delay the flowering period, you can move it to an environment of 5°C to 8°C after it has budded, letting it stop growing. When it's time to make it bloom, move it to a place above 12°C to let it resume growth and bloom.
