Flowering Ruellia
Flowering Ruellia Plant Attributes
Chinese Name: Ruellia, Alias: Blue Grass, Orchid Grass, Latin Name: Ruellia brittoniana. Family: Acanthaceae, Genus: Ruellia, Distribution: MexicoFlowering Ruellia Plant Introduction
Ruellia's underground rhizomes spread and grow, forming an interwoven horizontal rhizome network, on which buds develop. These buds grow upwards to form aerial seedlings, and correspondingly develop adventitious roots, forming new plants. The stems are reddish-brown. The capsules are oblong, initially green, turning brown when mature. After the fruit splits, the seeds disperse, and the seeds are fine like powder. Ruellia can bloom from spring to autumn, with an extremely long flowering period. Individual flowers have a short lifespan, opening in the morning and withering at dusk, visible every day. Most are blue-purple, with a few being pink or white, hence some flower enthusiasts classify them into purple Ruellia and pink Ruellia. The flowering period is from March to October.
