In China, lilies symbolize eternal love, a beautiful family, and great love, carrying deep blessings. People blessed by lilies have a simple and innocent character, gathering the宠爱 of many, but this alone cannot ensure a peaceful life. They must have self-discipline and resist external temptations to maintain their purity.
Then, do you know any legend stories about lilies?
Lily Legend One
In the legend stories about lilies, the first one is about an ancient state called Shu in the Sichuan area. The ruler and his queen were deeply in love and had a hundred princes. As the ruler and queen grew older, the ruler married a young and beautiful concubine. The concubine gave birth to a young prince the following year.
The ruler was overjoyed to have a son in his old age and doted on him. However, the concubine had different thoughts. She realized that her son could not inherit the throne without competing with the hundred princes born to the queen. So, she slandered the queen, saying that she was instigating the princes to rebel. The ruler, being old and senile, could not distinguish right from wrong and ordered the queen and the hundred princes to be banished.
The neighboring state of Shu was called Dian. Dian had long coveted Shu's land. Seeing the ruler's foolishness and the expulsion of his own sons, Dian believed the time was ripe to attack Shu.
Although Shu was a powerful state, the ministers, upon seeing the ruler favoring the concubine, believing her slander, and banishing the queen and princes, lost their morale and were unwilling to serve the ruler. As a result, Dian's army quickly captured cities and approached the capital of Shu, creating a critical situation.
In his helplessness, the ruler had to lead the troops personally. However, being old and weak, and having lost his prestige, the soldiers were only concerned with saving their own lives and no one was willing to fight. Suddenly, the ruler saw a small group of horsemen in the distance, who were extremely brave and fierce, charging into the enemy's camp and routing them. The remaining few enemies fled in disarray. When the ruler led his troops forward, he realized that this group of reinforcements, as if sent from heaven, were the hundred princes he had banished, along with their retainers.
At that moment, the ruler was both happy and ashamed, moved beyond words. An old minister hurried forward and said to the ruler, "Your Majesty, a harmonious family prospers. You should bring back the queen and princes to the palace, as a united family is essential for the prosperity of the country." The eldest prince said, "Father, please rest assured. Mother has always taught us to unite and support you, and to treat the concubine and her son kindly. We, the hundred brothers, will never separate and will help you govern the country together." The ruler, moved to tears, could not speak. Of course, the queen and the hundred princes were brought back, and the concubine also admitted her mistake. From then on, Shu became even stronger and more prosperous.

Shortly afterward, a strange thing happened. A peculiar plant grew under the high mountains where the princes had fought the enemy. Later, people named it "lily" based on its underground stem's overlapping characteristics and its association with the story of the hundred princes saving the king of Shu, giving it a name symbolizing brotherly unity.
Later, modern people also compare lilies to love that "lasts a hundred years"...
Lily Legend Two
There is another legend about lilies, which tells of a beautiful lily growing on a distant cliff, with a lily fairy living there, but only the fortunate can see it. If someone with evil intentions tries to pick it, they will find the cliff disappear as they approach and reappear on the mountain top when they are far away.
The lily has lived on the mountain for nearly a thousand years, patiently waiting for someone who genuinely loves her, enduring endless loneliness.
One day, a boy heard this legend and went through countless hardships to find it. Before entering the mountain, he smelled a refreshing fragrance and seemed to hear the sound of silver bells. On the mountain top, a lily quietly grew there, swaying in the breeze, like a girl dancing. This scene was indescribable. The boy was speechless, seeing such a beautiful flower that seemed like his dream lover!
The boy built a grass shed on the mountain slope so he could see the lily every day. He watered, fertilized, and shaded the lily. Whenever he had time, he would stare at it, his gaze burning as if it were his lover, gently stroking the petals as if he were caressing his lover's face, whispering his longing to it all day long.
Gradually, when the lily saw him, it would spin around, and when the wind blew, it would emit laughter, as if happy to see him. One day, a beautiful girl in white appeared next to the lily, the传说中的 lily fairy, moved by the boy's sincerity. "Come with me," she said, "and I will make you happy." The boy's eyes were filled with真诚 and love, perhaps he could be trusted. "I have been lonely for a long time and can now enjoy the happiness of the world.
The boy said, "Let the moon and the mountains witness my love!" Embracing the lily, he said, "I will never leave you. I will slowly accompany you to the ends of the world and grow old with you." The lily leaned against him, feeling like she was no longer an aimless cloud.
The next day, the lily left her cliff with him, carrying only the lily plant. The boy took her to an inn and said, "Wait here for me, I will come back for you." The lily waited and waited until a month later, when she heard the sound of joyous music. Stepping outside, she saw the boy riding a horse, with his new bride next to him in a flower轿.
A loud crack, and the lily's pot of flowers fell to the ground, the petals falling one by one. A gust of wind blew, and the lily disappeared without a trace, her face covered in tears. At this time, it began to rain, and people on the street saw the lily's figure gradually fade away like smoke! The boy suddenly fell from his horse, unconscious, and after recovering, he could only say the word "lily."
It is said that the path to the cliff with lilies was overnight covered with thorns, with small blue flowers blooming on them. People who heard this legend and tried to find the lily would faint for a day and a night when they approached the flowers, and upon waking, forget their purpose. The legendary lily and the lily fairy became mere legends, never seen again!
