Hydrangea macrocephala is a deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub, reaching up to 4 meters in height. Young branches have a pubescent stellate hair, while old branches are grayish-black, and winter buds lack scales. Leaves are ovate, elliptical, or nearly circular, with a deep green surface and sparse stellate pubescence, while the back and petioles are densely covered with stellate hair. The large corymbs are spherical in shape, with white corollas that are wheel-shaped; drupes are elliptical, first red then black, with flattened stones. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to October. Its flower language is hope, often used for garden ornamentation.
