Using dried branches to exchange and create banyan tree penjing
The editor answers everyone's questions about the related experience of growing flowers by exchanging dried branches to create banyan tree penjing. Next, the editor will explain in detail for you.
Banyan tree penjing is famous for its ancient and robust posture, but these ancient stumps need to be dug from the natural wild, which is not easy to accomplish. In recent years, it has become very common to use seed sowing and seedling raising to cultivate penjing. In order to shorten the shaping time of small and medium-sized penjing, the method of exchanging dried branches can be used to artificially change the main trunk into lateral branches, accelerate the thickening of lateral branches, and quickly form the lateral branches.
(1) Production time. It can be carried out during the period when the minimum temperature in spring is 15°C or the minimum temperature in autumn is 15°C. It is better to exchange dried branches during the banyan tree's growing period because the tree's internal cell activity is intense during this period, which makes it easier for the injured tissue to heal and the twisted trunk can quickly resume growth.
(2) Production method. Choose a banyan tree with a main trunk diameter of about 2 centimeters, a trunk height of about 60-80 centimeters, more lateral branches, and strong growth, and plant it obliquely in a culture pot. The culture pot should be deep and large enough to hold more soil and maintain more nutrients for the stump to grow. The angle of planting the banyan tree obliquely can be determined according to the production form. Generally, there are two types of production forms: one is two and a half bends, which is S-shaped or dragon-like curve; the other is a cliff style. For the two and a half bend style, the trunk is planted obliquely at about 45 degrees. After the tree is firmly planted for 1-2 months, use 12-10 gauge soft aluminum wire to wrap the trunk evenly, make the first bend of the S-shape curve, the bend arc should be larger, and use fine aluminum wire to pull the main trunk's bending part to make it fixed as a lateral branch. Choose an appropriate lateral branch on the original main trunk, exchange it as a new main trunk, and after 2-3 months of growth, the lateral branch of the first bend is basically shaped, and the new main trunk has grown. Then, loosen the aluminum wire, and continue to pull the bending part appropriately to make the bend firm. When the new main trunk grows to a diameter of about 2 centimeters, bend it again to make two and a half bends. The cliff style is similar to the two and a half bends, only with one exchange of dried branches.
(3) Production advantages
① Root exposure. Using oblique planting, half of the tree roots can be exposed above the soil surface, and after covering with soil, the root thickens and gradually becomes visible.
② Trunk bending. The main trunk changes the direction of the branch exchange several times to form a curve, and then the bending is assisted by artificial binding to make the curve natural without affecting the seedling growth.
③ Fast mass production. Using the main trunk as a lateral branch is easier than cultivating a lateral branch on the main trunk, and the lateral branch is thicker and the main trunk easily produces lateral branches.
④ Short plant height. Pressing a strong-growing main trunk to make a branch continuously changes the top dominance of the main trunk, with a larger arc of bending, making the seedling less likely to grow straight up, and the plant appears older and shorter.
