Watermelon Peel Fertilizer Making Method

This article provides you with detailed knowledge of flower cultivation, introducing the method of making watermelon peel fertilizer. Let's take a look together.

Currently, it is the season when watermelons are abundant in the market. Some gardening enthusiasts make watermelon peel fertilizer, which, after composting, becomes superior flower fertilizer. It not only saves on household expenses but also contributes significantly to environmental protection.

I. Making Watermelon Peel Liquid Fertilizer:

1. Cut the watermelon peel into strips about 5 cm long and 3 cm wide, put them in a container, and expose them to the sun for 5-7 days. After they rot, add 3-5 times water. To prevent the watermelon peel from producing a bad smell during the rotting process, you can add some orange peel.

2. Mix watermelon peel with vegetable leaves (grass), add water, and compost for 5-10 days. After making green manure, dilute it 2-3 times.

Applying the above green manure to potted azaleas whose leaves have yellowed due to poor management will restore their green color after 3 weeks. Additionally, watermelon peel has the effect of acidifying the soil.

Using a large cola bottle, cut the small watermelon peel into small strips, put them inside, and seal it for 7 days. In summer, with high temperatures and rapid water evaporation, it is the peak growing season for flowers, so the concentration of fertilizer should be low and the frequency should be high. Do not fill the bottle too full with peel and water, leaving 1/5 of the space. Open the bottle cap daily to release gas, as too much gas may force the cap off. Pour the diluted liquid about 2CM away from the seedling roots. Pour a little every three days, and the seedlings that like fertilizer will absorb it quickly, changing in just three days, becoming lush and green. Most flowers prefer acidic soil, so feel free to use it.

Note: There is no need to dry the watermelon peel; cut it into pieces, put it into a container, seal it, and place it on the balcony to be exposed to the sun (ferment)!

II. Preparing Soil:

Choose a sunny corner facing the sun, first lay a 5 cm thick layer of fine garden soil on the corner; then, cut the fresh watermelon peel into 5 cm cubes and place them on the soil, with a thickness of about 10 cm. Cover the watermelon peel with another 5 cm thick layer of fine garden soil, layering them; finally, cover with garden soil and seal with plastic film. Under a temperature of about 30°C, after about half a month, the watermelon peel will rot. Remove the film and mix it well, and you will get acidic soil with a pH value between 5.5 and 6.4 (this section by Moon Island Master).
